Written and presented by Daniel Taylor the author,
historian and expert on this famous battle that took
place in the picturesque Normandy market town of
Villers-Bocage on 13th June 1944.
There are several accounts available of the
'Battle of Villers-Bocage'. It is, to say the least, a
controversial action that in its retelling has been
embellished out of recognition. 'Operation Perch'
spearheaded by a crack British armoured column
of 7th Armoured Division, the ‘Desert Rats’ up
against the leading German tank ace
Michael Wittmann and his Tiger Tanks. The myth
that grew up about that day continues to rise to
the surface over 60 years after the battle.
Daniel’s film includes never before seen
eye-witness accounts from veterans of the battle
from the ‘Sharpshooters’, the Rifle Brigade and
the Royal Horse Artillery, plus local French testimony
that provides new insight into the most significant
tank action of the Normandy Campaign.
With Daniel's eye for detail, his astute analysis and
conclusions make this a fascinating follow-up and
companion to his acclaimed
"Villers-Bocage: Through the Lens" publication.
