Ack-ack Anti-aircraft fire
Bang on Accurate (from Bomber Command)
Barrage Balloons Voluminous elasticated knickers
Blotto Drunk
Blower Telephone
Brass People in authority, especially in the forces
Brown Job A soldier
Brylcreem boy An airman
bumph Paperwork
Cast Iron Irrefutable (i.e. bullet-proof)
Dekko Take a look (from Hindi)
In a flat spin Confused, bewildered (from RAF term for aircraft out of control
Fleapit Cinema
Fruit Salad Lots of medals on a uniform
Jacksie Hindquarters
Look, duck and vanish LDV (Local defence Volunteers), forerunner of the Home Guard
Loose off Shout or rant, orginally "to fire a gun"
Meat wagon Ambulance
Moaning Minnie Air raid siren
Packet Load of trouble
Passion killers Thick wollen underwear, as issued to servicewomen
Prune Idiot who takes risks (after the cartoon character Pilot Officer Prune)
Push off Go (Originally boating term)
Scram Leave in a hurry (shortened version of scramble (RAF term ) )
Shaky do A bad experience (RAF term)
Sling your hook Leave, go away (naval term for taking down one's hammock)
Soil cinderellas Women's Land Army
Squirt Short person (service slang for a short burst of automatic gunfire)
Stooge Wander or hang around
Under the counter Illegal (goods sold in contravention of rationing regulations)
Wads Sandwiches
Wallah Person (from India)
Write off Beyond repair
