THE WAR AND PEACE SHOW 2002

Living History Displays

Every year, many dedicated enthusiasts brush off their uniforms, dig out the camo netting and get on down to Beltring to recreate some classic scenes from the last 70 years of worldwide warfare. You will find a selection of photos below - if you are a living history enthusiast and come regularly to the show, please do send us your photos and we will put them up on this site. If you've never been to the show and are thinking about joining us for the 2002 War and Peace Show, you might like to know that ATTENDING AND CAMPING FOR THE WHOLE FIVE DAYS ARE FREE TO PRE-BOOKED LIVING HISTORY GROUPS!! The plans to turn the clock back to 1942 in the Hop Farm buildings during the Show are proceeding apace. Many re-enactors have been booked and assorted livestock, farm equipment and vintage vehicles will be imported for the occasion.

However, there is still space for more if they fit into the scenario of "the Hop Farm at War". This is a great opportunity, especially for civilian re-enactors and owners of wartime civilian vehicles, to play an active part in the show in a situation which will give them maximum exposure to the public and also give plenty of time off to enjoy the rest of the show.

If any small groups or individual re-enactors want to take part in this authentic recreation they will be most welcome and should contact Terry Elliott on 0207 515 8981. In particular, Terry is looking for an "American" group willing to "adopt" the vehicles and buildings of the resident War and Peace collection and turn them into a motor pool for the duration of the show. Where else could you get the opportunity to play with some seriously heavy metal for 5 days AND sleep indoors?

We need to clear up some confusion regarding charges for people taking part in Living History displays at this year's show. There are NO ADMISSION, OR CAMPING CHARGES for members of pre booked living history displays. We appreciate the costs and effort incurred by some groups in putting together displays and in striving to achieve the remarkable degree of authenticity which has been evident at past shows. Our exit polls and public surveys tell us that, for many, they provide great interest and enjoyment to visitors to the show.

This year we have made more space available for living history and have pledged to avoid the problems of the past - there will definitely be NO bouncy castles in view, civilian vehicles will be ejected from the display areas while the show is open, and groups will be sited away from dusty access roads wherever possible. The one thing which could make a world of difference at this year's show would be a dedicated co-ordinator who could liase with us and the various groups and help to allocate display space, resolve local difficulties, and generally make exhibitors welcome. If you have the necessary skills and time available, please consider volunteering for this key post. You can get more details of what is involved, or offer your services, by contacting the War & Peace office.

While on the subject of living history, a number of groups have already expressed an interest in displaying in the "Showcase" field being run by Terry Elliott. To remind you, this is a new feature this year, providing the main visitor route to the rest of the show and giving the public an extensive taste of the delights to be found elsewhere on the site. The plan is to provide a mix of stalls, displays, dioramas and vehicles, all chosen for their quality, uniqueness or crowd appeal! If you are a vehicle owner, re-enactor, have a display, or are a stallholder specialising in collectable militaria (such as uniforms, badges, medals, books, vintage clothing or WW11 Home Front items) and wish to be sited in this area, please contact the War & Peace Office or Terry Elliott on 0207 515 8981 as soon as possible.

Some of the displays from previous years...

A Vietnam display, with GIs in full kit... these chaps are also responsible for a big and rather spectacular event in the arena.. see photos here...

The Second Battle Group are almost entirely responsible for representing the Axis forces at the War and Peace Show, and without them, many battles would not be possible! To find out more about the Second Battle Group and what they get up to at Beltring and beyond, click here!

Chris and Mark Burley have been coming to Beltring since 1988 -

"I will be attending as usual with my diorama entitled U.S RANGERS IN NORMANDY 1944. which includes 6 fully equipped mannequins, a fully restored 1942 Ford jeep and a ground display of weapons and equipment. This was featured in WHEELS AND TRACKS MAGAZINE. My brother and I have been regularly attending your show since 1988 and think it gets BIGGER and better every year!"
