Press
Release - Feb 2002
As more and
more companies have fleets of cars for their employees, there are few
that could boast such a diverse and interesting one as the fleet at
the Hop Farm Country Park.
The most recent
addition to the unusual collection is a Carrier personnel full tracked
FV432. This joins an abbott self propelled
gun, a vintage van, a dray and a train.
Brent Pollard,
owner of The Hop Farm said, "With such a diverse range of events
and attractions at the Hop Farm, it seems only fitting that our company
fleet reflects this. We feel now that the fleet accurately reflects
us, with the dray and vintage van representing our history and heritage,
the train representing the families that visit us, and of course the
tanks representing the largest show held at the Hop Farm."
The two military
vehicles have been added to the collection to represent the KM War and
Peace show held at the venue annually. The show is claimed to be the
largest military vehicle display in the world, with 3,500 military vehicles
being shown at the 2001 show and 90,000 visitors. Plans for the 2002
show are now well under way, with a second arena planned concentrating
on "living history" displays and including a 1940's fashion
show.
Up to 4,000 military
vehicles are expected this year, including some very rare vehicles such
as "The WW2 Willys MT TUG 6X6 Jeep".
Only 15 were ever built in late 1942 by Willys Overland as a test concept
to go into production and be used by the US Marines. But due to its
late arrival and the fact that other 6X6 military vehicles were being
heavily used by US Forces, the Army saw no need for it, so hence it
never went into full production. Today it is believed that only 4 of
these MT TUG's have survived.
