THE
WAR AND PEACE SHOW 2002
The
Bart Vanderveen Challenge Shield
|
 |
|
|
"To be awarded annually to
the individual, chosen by nominations, who has contributed most to the
military vehicle preservation movement."
Inaugurated
and sponsored by After the Battle, publishers of Wheels & Tracks magazine
which was founded by Bart Vanderveen in 1982 and edited by him until the
75th issue published in April 2001.
|
|
Bart
Vanderveen’s association with military vehicles, their origins, history,
preservation and restoration is legendary. He restored his first MV in
1959 having produced his first book the previous year, since when he has
authored numerous titles on the subject.
|
|
For
the last 18 years he has compiled and edited Wheels & Tracks, attaining
a reputation around the world for detail and accuracy. It is with this background,
reaching back over half a century, that the award is given in its inaugural
year to the man whose name it bears. |
|
The
trophy was presented to Bart himself, posthumously, and accepted on his
behalf by Dirk Leegwater, an old friend, at the 2001 show.
We
are now taking nominations for the 2002 Bart Vanderveen Challenge Shield
Award, to be presented at the War and Peace Show, which is the world’s
largest gathering of privately owned military vehicles, held annually
at The Hop Farm near Paddock Wood in Kent, in July.
